Spring has sprung, and love is in the air!  We've been fortunate enough to be involved in some pretty exciting wedding proposals...thanks to the wonderful couples and new friends we've taken up on their special day.  And they've all said YES!

We're discovering that winter and spring on the Outer Banks is a great time to fly!  We were lucky enough to go up the day after a rare snowfall to get some pictures, and have often seen humpback whales migrating through the area in the waters off of Hatteras Island and Nags Head, most often surrounded by large schools of dolphin.

The pictures below are of  a very large school of red drum that we spotted during one of our air tours, offshore along the Outer Banks...you can click on any of the pictures to enlarge.  The fish are about 40 to 50 lbs. each, there were many, many thousands in this school.          July, 2010

Dot Willis, age 89 getting ready for her first helicopter ride ever!
Dot Willis is the last surviving resident of Portsmouth Island, a former thriving community just south of Ocracoke Island.  Portsmouth was at one time the largest settlement on the Outer Banks, and the last two residents moved away in 1971.  There is a homecoming hosted on the island every two years, and this year we were honored to be able to take Dot over by helicopter.  She is 89 years old, and this was her first helicopter ride....to see a short clip of Dot taking off from Ocracoke Airport, click here.
