First helicopter ride!
Dot Willis, age 89 getting ready for her first helicopter ride ever!
Dot Willis is the last surviving resident of Portsmouth Island, a former thriving community just south of Ocracoke Island. Portsmouth was at one time the largest settlement on the Outer Banks, and the last two residents moved away in 1971. There is a homecoming hosted on the island every two years, and this year we were honored to be able to take Dot over by helicopter. She is 89 years old, and this was her first helicopter ride....to see a short clip of Dot taking off from Ocracoke Airport, click on the following link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTrsITyfqC4
